Let's talk about SEALAND (part 1?)

Adding a new label called lolworld. Random facts about
random countries/places/MICRONATIONS/ehhhh.

TODAY, the spotlight's on the Principality of Sealand's (a "disputed" micronation off the coast of Essex) beginning.

Built on the sea in 1944 by the United Kingdom, Sealand was originally a military base during World War II to defend England against German air raids. After the war however, the bases and forts were abandoned, leaving the platform on the sea to become extranational territory. By late 1967, former English major Paddy Roy Bates settled the "island" with his family and claimed it his own after talk with skillful lawyers. He made himself "Prince" and gave the title of "Princess" to his wife*, making the state into the Principality of Sealand. Roy Bates became Roy of Sealand, and was an absolute sovereign of the state.

By late 1968 the British started becoming aware of what was going on in Sealand, and sent ships into its territorial waters. Roy of Sealand fired warning shots and was then tried later on, as he was still an English citizen. In the end though the court decided that they could not exert any sort of judgement in Roy of Sealand's case because technically, Sealand was not British territory. This was the first recognition of Sealand's Sovereign state, since no other country went on to claim it for their own.

And here I end part 1. ((:
So yeah, the website of the Principality of Sealand is here.

* Become a Lord or Lady of the Principality of Sealand yourself TODAY! Only about $9. :D:D:D:D:D

I would so buy a Lady title for myself but then again my parents would think that would be so weird but still.
