Apple making a $99 iPhone?
This summer, Apple is expected to make an entry level iPhone that will cost aroun $99. Along with it will come an updated 3G iPhone.
"Checks reveal further entry-level iPhone details, including launches on existing carriers June/July with a data plan, entry-level pricing and a lower subsidy. Also expected is a 3G iPhone performance upgrade (performance, features, form factor).
An entry level iPhone could increase Apple's overall iPhone unit sales by 25 percent to 69 percent and bump up its slice of the smartphone market from an estimated 12 percent to 14 percent to 19 percent, the report notes. "
But then again, it could ruin their business. It would take 3 of their entry-level iPhones to replace the gross profits of the 3G iPhone. It could also create a situation where Apple would have to lower the prices of their iPod to sustain momentum because the iPhone can also be use as a media player.
Go figure.
Bad for business, but better for customers Y/N? Look out for it this summer, assuming Apple goes on with this idea! ;D
